Why are torsion springs better?
These coiled springs are usually installed above the door opening and they work by twisting. They balance the door better than extension springs, because they work together as a pair. Not only do they provide smoother operation, but are also safer when they break thanks to a torsion bar there to contain them.
Why shouldn’t I fix the garage door myself? Do I really need a professional?
Tightening of loosened screws, cleaning and lubrication are all fine and well. However, you must also bear in mind that some components are under high tension (e.g. springs and cables) and unprofessional handling can lead to damage, serious injury and even death. In addition to your safety, there’s also the issue of your losing your warranty, ending in costing you more money in the process.
